Islamabad, Pakistan – On Thursday, March 30, 2023, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) welcomed the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, Mr Muhyuddin Ahmad Wani, and a group of provincial secretaries to discuss potential areas of collaboration between NUST and the government of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Pro-Rector Research, Innovation & Commercialization AVM Dr Rizwan Riaz SI(M), along with officers and faculty from the National Science & Technology Park, School of Interdisciplinary Engineering & Sciences (SINES), Nustainable, and NUST Professional Development Centre- PDC, briefed the delegation on various initiatives and possibilities for collaboration.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan shared the government’s efforts to introduce information technology in the region and establish IT parks in joint collaboration with NUST’s National Science & Technology Park (NSTP). NUST also offered to provide training for start-ups in Gilgit-Baltistan and to extend cooperation to the government in developing the school management system and establishing Lincoln Corners in schools and colleges of GB through mutual cooperation.
In addition, NUST will extend technical support for virtual tours of top tourist destinations through SINES, and the Nustainable Office of Sustainability will provide avenues for undertaking forest monitoring, estimation of water resources, and monitoring of urban air quality, and the use of data analytics for broadcast and social media.
Both parties agreed to hold a start-up expo after Eid holidays to bring together local and national start-ups. A team of technical experts from NUST will visit Gilgit-Baltistan in the near future to implement the agreed-upon initiatives. A letter of understanding will be signed between the government of Gilgit-Baltistan and NUST to formalize the partnership.
